Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to cut away.
– Antoine de Saint Exupéry
Too many people hear the word “simple” and think it means “easy”. Far from it. Simplification is one of the hardest things to do, usually because it requires restraint and discarding. But when we can make things simpler, we truly make things better.
The Cooper Journal has an article about how the best interface is no interface. I’m wont to agree, because we really need to keep things simple.
But again, it’s hard. And usually at the onset we think it is simple and don’t realize it’s not until we’ve created it and are using it. We then must refine. But we cannot be afraid to refine and simplify, for it usually leads to better things.
